Doha, September 17, 2026 : Qatar has completed its preparations for high-level participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81), which is being held this September at the United Nations headquarters in New York under the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”
Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari said Qatar’s participation comes amid a challenging international environment shaped by regional tensions that have intensified since February.
Speaking to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr. Al Ansari said Qatari officials are scheduled to hold a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings with counterparts from various countries, as well as representatives of international and regional organizations, on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
The meetings will focus on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding cooperation across various fields, and developing strategic partnerships. They will also address regional and international developments and explore ways to reduce tensions and support diplomatic efforts toward lasting stability and peace.
Dr. Al Ansari said Qatar’s participation in this year’s General Assembly will place particular emphasis on international peace and security, dialogue, mediation, and de-escalation, while promoting respect for international law and the UN Charter.
He added that Qatar will also focus on strengthening multilateral cooperation, rebuilding confidence in the international system, supporting sustainable development and humanitarian initiatives, and ensuring that assistance reaches communities and countries most in need.
Qatar will also continue its mediation efforts, Dr. Al Ansari said, despite the ongoing crises and challenges facing the region.
